i read this little prequel as a foretaste of what is to come in the covenant series. what can i say? i totally loved daimon. at first the title really gave this wtf-moment. i mean "daimon"? what the hell is a "daimon"? demon, yeah. daemon, maybe. but daimon? this reminded me of the "vampyrs" in the extremely bad house of night series.
however, daimon is not anywhere near comparable with hon. plus after the first pages i got the lowdown on the daimon thingy.
daimon is well-written, fast-paced, and really exciting. a balanced mixture of fun, action, and drama.
i liked the heroine. she's refreshing, sympathetic, full of passion, and has a sharp tongue. furthermore she's as caring and vulnerable as she is strong.
btw, it's a welcome change to read about the grief that follows loss. too many stories are like "huh? dead? okay, that's bad, but let's go on as though nothing had happened". it's good that alex took her time to mourn for her mom. it was so intense my heart broke for her.
i only can hope the covenant series is going to deliver what daimon promises. i think it will - beyond all doubt :)
